On Sunday 8th May, the OR golfers took on their counterparts from Marlborough at Walton Heath in warm, indeed hot, sunshine made most acceptable by a cooling breeze. Those picked to play by team captain Alex Fiott were Christopher Johnson-Gilbert, Robert Lyons, Michael Colclasure, Samanarth Ghorpade, David Walker, Johnny Walker and Tim Watts.
The morning matches, over the New Course, finished with a 3:1 advantage to Rugby. Strengthened after the well known and excellent Walton Heath lunch, Rugby halved two and won two of the afternoon matches played on the Old Course, to finish the match as winners 6:2.
Many thanks to Alex Fiott for his organisation of the Rugby side. Our side at Walton Heath included one or two who warming up for next Sunday, 15th May, when they will play in the qualifying round (scratch stableford foursomes) of the Grafton Morrish at Royal Wimbledon GC (teeing off at 12.54).
Good luck to our team and we hope that they will, as in the last several years, qualify for the finals in Norfolk in October.
