The penultimate event of the ORGS year is a match, played at Royal St George’s, between OR golfers and OR cricketers. As usual, the format is foursomes.
Frost on the course slightly delayed the course opening, but the day was perfect for golf – other than the dew/melted frost which made the greens slow until the water had evaporated, the match was blessed with dry weather, increasing sunshine and a strengthening breeze. The course looked a picture although the pin positions were very tricky (with the centre of the greens being rested, the green edge or close to slopes were being used). The only disappointment of the day was in the numbers attending, made worse by a number of late withdrawals (one of them very late indeed!).
Nevertheless, the 12 participating had a most enjoyable morning with the cricketers sweeping the board to win 3:0.
Those playing then enjoyed the excellent catering at the club for the usual superb lunch with informal golf available to those who wished or the possibility of watching England v S Africa on the TV.
Out thanks to Jamie Clark for organising and to the other RStG members who played (the more members who play, the more reasonable the green fee becomes for visitors).
Those taking part were the Captain, Jamie Clark (M 65-70), Michael Attenborough (K 53-59) Peter Mason (SH 49-54), Jim Rumbellow (M 58-62), Ed Hills (SF 90-95), Rebecca Garner (D 92-94), Will Lowe (C 09-14), Robert Lyons (K 56-60), Jamie Plews (SH 88-93), Ewen Gilmour (C 67-70) and the Hon Secretary.
