True Rugbeian spirit was shown in the annual ORGS match v Rye GC on the weekend of 2nd/3rd March.
As a number of members commented the fixture is becoming a real flagship event at the beginning of the society season and so well supported. The course as always magnificently set up and club so welcoming.
8 matches were played on the Friday afternoon and 21 matches through Saturday.
We were also very honoured by having a large representation of the Halford Hewitt team attending led by Alex Fiott and meeting some of the more senior members of the society. That wonderful mix of experience and youth blended very naturally on and off the golf course.
After a very good start to the match the team led 4.5 points to 3.5 points on Friday. However Rye came back strongly on Saturday morning and won the session 7.5points to 3.5 points.
So now 11 to 8 down a rallying cry was given by the team skipper and those players who had fought hard in the earlier sessions but not necessarily won dug deep in very blustery conditions and triumphed in the afternoon winning the session 6.5 points to 3.5 points . It was very fitting that the match was tied in the last match of the day 14.5 points each.
A very fair result played in a wonderful spirit by both sides and on behalf of Clive and myself thank you for all your wonderful support and messages and we look forward to doing it all again next year.
Enjoy the rest of the golfing season.
