Huge thanks to Colin Passmore for again organising and re-organising our had-to-be-abandoned “Fin-de-saison” fun meeting at Burnham & Berrow.
Of the original 28-odd participants, an octet, sadly only permitted to be drawn from the B & B Members, was re-recruited to help demolish the pre-ordered fish and chips and drink the vino.
Colin divided these into two teams, as follows:
The likely losers: Colin Passmore, Nick Hills, Christopher Gabbey and ‘steady-Eddie’ Tim Hamilton …. the winners!!
The likely winners: Tim Stubbs, Robin Staunton, Bertie Garforth-Bles (he’s a lot to answer for) and Jock Fraser …. who lost, but not by much!
We nearly missed our “Tee-off” slots as the discussions/arguments reigned/rained? over strokes to be conceded, or the use of “Sunningdale” etc etc. The format was agreed – amicably, without Barnier’s helpful assist.
Great fun and some great golf in lovely winter conditions. We all appreciated our good fortune.
After an excellent lunch 6/8th = 3/4 took to the channel to work off the rice pudding. More hilarity, and of course, a halved match.
So sad that we were reduced in number, but we all pray that 2021 will bring us back to normalcy. The Octet wish all Rugbeian Gowfers, old and young, a safe and fun passage through the Festive season.
I hate to end this report on a sad note, but a long-lasting affair is almost certain to end – at best, in divorce, at worst in cremation. Yes! Nick Hills’ relationship with his putter!
