Sunshine may have blessed much of the Kingdom, but it forsook Royal Porthcawl GC and what with the damp, drizzle, mist and semi-darkness there is no photographic evidence of a memorable and wonderful return trip to one of the Rugbeian Golfing Society favourite venues. No justice would be done to the handsome regulars of Nick Hills’ chosen team.
No way did this dampen the enthusiasm and spirit of the above, nor of our magnificent hosts. Nick’s team which he led magnificently in the manner of the Duke of Plaza Toro (from behind) comprised Prior; Watts; Walker; Newton; Passmore; Aitken; Garforth-Bles; Fraser and A. Businessman.
Keenly contested, as ever, the 1st Round result remained in dispute, the final match the subject of a Steward’s enquiry. With the Referee refusing to make a decision as he had retired to the 19th.
Too bad! Dinner, enormous fun and our Organiser impressed that we 10 + 10 outperformed last year’s 12 + 12 in vino consumption. Disgraceful.
Wet with the rough quite awful and the quality of golf in some cases matching both. Be that as it may – and I have to thanks my partner, A.A. for holding our team together well enough for us to contribute to a memorable halved match overall, and thus achieve the desired result for RPGC to confirm a date for next year – 6th / 7th September. Make no mistake this fixture (thanks to NH) really is so popular very largely due to the magnificent hospitality of the Membership. We thanks them hugely.
