The Gerald Micklem Cup started in 1954 and is the flagship scratch match-play event for 8 Public Schools held at Woking Golf Club. Teams of five players from Bradfield, Charterhouse, Eton, Harrow Rugby, Stowe, Wellington, and Winchester compete in an un-seeded draw. Rugby last won the event in 2012, having won it four times. The standard of play is increasingly high, with the winning side typically comprising players with handicaps of no more than 7.
Blue skies welcomed the schools for the practice day on Tuesday 8 March 2022, with all eight schools practising hard. It was a real pleasure once again for the Rugbeian Golfing Society to greet The School and to catch up on all the latest news from both the Houses and sports fields in particular. The boys were once again an absolute credit to the School, great fun to spend time with, and were rightly proud to be representing the School over the coming days.
After a convivial lunch, 6 competitive matches followed with much advice and words of wisdom (!) being passed onto the players by RGS. It was therefore appropriate that the overall match was tied 3 matches each. The Society wishes the School the very best of luck over the coming 48 hours which inevitably will be hard-fought.
The Society was represented by our Captain, Nigel Cadbury, President Tim Watts, Paul Trendell, Rob Arthur, Charles Maisey, Antony Aitken, John Newton and Theo Williams.
George Whitelaw ( Captain), Tom Zhao (Vice), Aidan Jaggard, Eithan La Porta and Leo Dakin are representing the School, with quality support from masters Andy Davy (Master in Charge) and Michael Powell (Housemaster, Cotton).
